Julia

A number of you have asked who Julia is and what she looks like.  Here are some photos which help illustrate just who this woman is and what she means to me.

Julia and friends at IML '02

This is Julia, in the center there, at IML '02 (the International Mister Leather contest) in the hotel lobby.  There's quite a bit of storyline with this photo.  The two men on either side of her are Stephen and Greg.  The man at her feet is "J.R." and Dean Ogren is the one standing behind her.  Stephen and Greg were couple and it was Stephen who really played a key part in my relationship with Julia.

I was at the Los Angeles Leather Leadership Conference in April of '02 when this man walked up to me, introduced himself as Stephen Scott and asked if I was Madoc Pope.  After I said yes and we'd chatted a bit he walked off to make a phone call.  He returned and handed me the phone, saying there was someone on the other end who really wanted to talk to me.  It was Julia.

I had first met Julia at the IML weekend in '01 but we'd not chatted much beyond that.  She, however, had kept tabs on me by going through my website.  I later learned that it was from the website that she thought I wasn't really interested in women.  In any event, she did ask her friends to keep an eye peeled for me if ever they found themselves out on the West Coast at some leather event which I might be at.  Stephen did that and upon finding me he quickly called Julia.  Things started up from there.

At the end of May I found myself back in Chicago to attend that year's IML.  Julia and I eventually did cross paths.  First at the contest itself.

The contest is held in the Congress, which is a big and old movie palace theater north of downtown.  To get away from the crowd for a bit I found a untraveled nook in which Julia and I could chat privately.  Later that night, after the contest, she and I finally got to know each other better.

In January of '03 Julia came out for a nice long weekend and during that time we went up to LA and Santa Monica.  We had fun taking all that in and Julia got to watch me try my brand new skates.  In turn, I got to watch her carried across a pile of broken glass and also pose next to some of the posers at the Muscle Beach gym.

That's the Muscle Beach Gym in the background.  We walked around it a bit to take it all in as it was part of the whole Venice Beach Experience!

Come that summer we were back and did more than just stand outside the place.

In April of '03 I went out to Oklahoma City to spend a weekend with her and while there we took a bunch of photos of each other.  The ones here were taken at the Will Rodgers State Park which is pretty close to her home there in OKC.

Come IML of '03 we once again were in Chicago and were once again at the contest and once again finding that little nook.  She was wearing a different outfit this time.  As well as sporting a different hair color too!

That August Julia competed in the International Ms. World Leather contest.  As part of that she needed a whole wardrobe of fabulous attire.  This shot here is of one of the more elegant outfits she acquired for that task.  This was made for her by Shannon Short, a man who, along with his lover, has since become another good friend of hers.

Yes, that is me up there in the frame on the left.  Julia took that photo when I was out there that April and had it framed to hang here in her front bedroom.  I was both flattered and rather tickled by that.
In September of '03 we both went to San Francisco to attend the Folsom Street Fair.  That was her first time in the City and we both had a blast.  Whilst walking up and down Folsom Street Julia also ran across a number of folks she'd met in her travels in our community.  The man on the left there is Donald Dotson.  There were several other folks there at Folsom who we both knew but we didn't get photos of like this one.

In April of '04 I was out in Oklahoma City to spend a weekend with Julia and while there I took a few photos of her as we galavanted about the town.  Yes, that's my collar she wearing.

By August of '04 Julia had packed up her life in OKC and we drove out from there back to here in San Diego.  Along the way we took a few photos.

Just past Flagstaff

The vista here was some kinda awesome!

Once in San Diego she and I set to work settling in.

Halloween 04

Thanks to the Pumpkin Carvin' Party that David and Scott hold each year we had our pumpkins nicely done in time for the evening.  One moonlit night I set up the camera on its tripod and too the shot above here.

In May of '05 Julia and I got a dog, Luna, and that has brought us both a lot of joy.

Julia and Luna

In this shot Luna is but a few month old.  As of September '06 she about a year and half old and weighs almost seventy pounds!

Toby in August

In August of '05 Toby, Julia's oldest son, came out here for a weekend.  The woman on the left is one of Julia's clients, Diedre.  She and Toby hit it off quite well.  As you might be able to have guessed, this shot was taken down at Coronado beach with the Hotel Del Coronado in the background.  This was Toby's first time out on the west coast.  Julia's hair is now much longer, mine much shorter.  And so it goes...
